What Makes North Kansas City Homes Different
North Kansas City is its own small municipality of only about four and a half square miles, and it has a specific history. The city incorporated in 1912, and large-scale building only became possible after levees went up along the river between 1909 and 1912. That early start left behind a real stock of older homes: while the typical NKC house dates to around the early 1970s, census-based housing data shows roughly a fifth of homes here were built before 1940.
That older share is the whole reason NKC is such a strong refinishing market. Homes from the early 1900s and the pre-war years very often have original hardwood, oak or pine, still in place beneath carpet that went down decades later. Pulling that carpet and bringing the original floor back is some of the most satisfying work we do, and it usually beats replacement on both value and character.
The newer, mid-century portion of the housing stock supports plenty of replacement and update work too. Either way, the climate is the constant.
